It’s not often that something like this comes through our workshop. Our customer wanted to find a way to use a vintage trike that had been in their possession for many years and used as a promotional bike. It’s vintage is unknown but at least 75 years old. Is this the oldest ebike in Australia?
Retaining as much of the original patina as possible we added a simple front hub motor system and welded on a set of v-brake bosses to give the trike some functional brakes. The battery and controller were hidden under the ancient wooden load tray.
The trike was stripped and cleaned and bearings replaced where possible, new tyres were fitted to the ancient cart style steel rims and the bare metal frame treated to a clean and a coating of lanolin to help preserve it.
